BACKUS -- An 18-year-old Little Falls man died about 12:40 p.m. Sunday after the four-wheeler he was driving along a rural Backus road struck a tree, the Cass County Sheriff's Department reported.

She was born on July 20, 1917, in Jevne Township, Minn., to William and Mina (Jevne) Greer. She married Maurice Edward Kingstrom on Oct. 5, 1959, in Minneapolis. She was a retired operator with Northwestern Bell Telephone with 32 years of service.

Frances O'Connor Gunn, 80, passed away on May 22. Surrounded by her children, she died peacefully at Whitefish Lake, Minn. She will be remembered for her intelligence, her sense of humor, her love of reading, her loyalty, and most importantly for her love of family. Family is her legacy.

I'm sure there will be more publicity about the momentous event, but I just had to make myself heard once more. There really should be a huge crowd honoring the closing of a school that had such a tremendous effect on so many of our lives.

OUR OPINION: LEGISLATURE
Assessing the work of the 2005 Minnesota Legislature is similar to the task an art critic faces when a work of art that's being evaluated isn't finished.

VOX POP
How much damage are we doing by feeding birds, deer, squirrels, etc.? These are wild creatures and need to find their own food. We take that away from them and make them helpless therefore causing all kinds of problems.

Open Forum
This wisdom must have come from the recent "whine and cry" session held in Wadena and chaired by Mr. Oberstar. After each attendee took his turn complaining about the lack of feed (tax money) available at the public trough, they must have declared tax rates irrelevant. What a relief! Now business owners, entrepreneurs and the self-employed can forget about the DFL efforts to raise taxes. It's irrelevant.
