Central Lakes College will host the first Technology Design Camp June 9-12 for central Minnesota high school juniors and seniors.
The event is free and runs 9 a.m. to noon each day.
Coordinator Brian Kohn, a physics and engineering instructor at the Brainerd campus, said participants will witness how computer-aided design can generate exact three-dimensional models using a rapid prototype machine.
"This is intended for students who like to build things and want to know more about technology," Kohn said. "We intend to show students how modern technology is applied to the design process. Those attending will use CAD programs to produce mechanical models and working electric circuits."
Another reason for holding the camp is to allow youths an opportunity to consider the possibilities for their future, Kohn said.
Registration deadline is Friday.
"We will guarantee enrollment to the first 20 applicants," he said, noting registration can be completed by calling him at 855-8172 or e-mailing with the student's name, address, phone number and school to email@example.com.

Cass Lake water tower funded
CASS LAKE -- A 200,000-gallon pedestal water tower in Cass Lake is being funded by a $626,693 low-interest loan from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority, the state's primary infrastructure financing entity.
The water tower is currently being constructed and completion is expected by October 2004. Cass Lake's existing water supply falls short of Minnesota Department of Health requirements for water storage and the existing tank is deteriorating. Future growth was expected to put further strain on the system.
During the 20-year term of the below-market rate loan, Cass Lake taxpayers and rate payers are expected to realize interest savings of more than $193,000, the state reported.
