The Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's Performances in the Park series opens June 7 in Gregory Park with musician-humorist Roy Liljequist.
The free, family oriented series will feature a performer every Thursday through July 19. Show time each week is 7 p.m.
Liljequist, a Plymouth native who has lived in the Brainerd area since 1990, mixes country, folk rock and blues into an often-humorous look at life. He plays mostly original music on his acoustic guitar and harmonica.
Upper South, a Brainerd area band formed nearly 15 years ago, will entertain the park crowd June 14.
Brainerd High School instructor Gerry Wass will give a performance in both Spanish and English on June 21.
The band, which plays a variety of classic rock and roll songs, is a regular performer at area nightspots, as well as the cancer walk Relay for Life and other area charity functions.
Brainerd High School instructor Gerry Wass is scheduled for the June 21 concert. A Spanish teacher, Wass performs in both English and Spanish.
Expect a blend of catchy, light-hearted songs from his "Chickens on the Move and Other Philosophical Issues" CD, including "Carp in the Bathtub," "Slow Learner" and "Beethoven in the Bargain Bin."
Skal Klub will bring an international touch to the park June 28. The area group plays traditional Norwegian, Finnish and Danish music on fiddles, accordion, guitar, pump organ, recorder and double bass.
