"Pearl Harbor," one of the most talked about movies of the summer, opens this weekend in area theaters.
The $130 million production starring Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett (of Minneapolis), Kate Beckinsale and Cuba Gooding Jr. is billed as a part-romance, part-action movie told against the backdrop of Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The event brought the United States into World War II.
It will be fun to see what all the hype is about.
The new Francis Lee Jaques exhibit opened this week at the Aitkin museum that bears the famous artist's name.
From the 1930s to the 1960s, Jaques reigned as one of America's greatest wildlife artists. His paintings and drawings aside, this is a story about a local boy who made good. Jaques spent much of his youth and young adult years in the Aitkin area, which inspired much of his work.
The Jaques Art Center in downtown Aitkin is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
