The public is invited to bike, skate, jog or walk the Paul Bunyan Trail with Congressman Jim Oberstar during the fourth annual "Ride with Jim" on Sunday, June 3.
Starting at the trail parking lot in Hackensack, the day will start with caramel rolls and coffee served at 8:30 a.m. The 50-mile ride will end in Baxter at 3 p.m.
A lunch stop at the trailside Information Center in Pequot Lakes and rest stops in every community along the way will be provided for participants.
No preregistration or fee is required. Participants may ride all or any portion of the trail.
County and city bike patrols are encouraged to attend. The Brainerd Lakes National Skate Patrol will lead the skaters.
Oberstar, an avid bicyclist, rides about 2,000 miles per year. He was the first U.S. member of Congress to speak to the Trade Industry Group about assuring that Congress will support bicycles as a part of the nation's Transportation Policy.
Other Minnesota Congressmen have been invited along with leading DNR and Minnesota Department of Transportation officials. Members of Minnesota Parks and Trails Council will also participate.
