A landslide has closed one lane of traffic on Southwest Fourth Street, at May Street, in Brainerd.
City Engineer Jeff Hulsether said it appeared the 4-foot slide was caused by weakened fill material that was used when the roadway was widened in 1964.
Though the slide has closed the east traffic lane, there are still two lanes of traffic.
Since the site is hazardous, Hulsether has asked that people not go into the fenced-in area of the site. "The river bank appears stable, but it's still unpredictable," he said.
The city will continue to monitor the slide, and Hulsether said a geo-technical expert will be brought in to evaluate the situation and make recommendations on both temporary and permanent fixes.
Hulsether said it was unknown when the landslide and road would be fixed.
