Commencement ceremonies for the largest graduating class in Brainerd Community College history will begin at 8 p.m. Friday. The 249 graduates will be addressed by retired Gen. John W. Vessey Jr., former chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Janet Huston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor W. Huston, a junior at Washington High School, won first place among 3,000 state entries in the annual Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association essay contest.

Registration of delegates for the state convention of past office clerks will begin at the Ransford Hotel. Approximately 100 delegates from Minnesota are expected.
