After three years of dismal hiring prospects, the job market for college graduates is finally improving, according to two recently released studies.

Dispatch appeals judge's decision
The Brainerd Dispatch Thursday appealed a decision by Crow Wing County Judge Richard Zimmerman to the Minnesota Court of Appeals regarding a lawsuit in which the newspaper alleged the Brainerd City Council wrongly met in closed session July 25.

Growth in the Brainerd lakes area has seemingly stepped up the pace for everyone so small town niceties and courtesies many folks have grown accustomed to are pushed aside or delayed.
Letter writers for the left
When I read the opinions written by some correspondents it has gotten impossible to differentiate between the desires of the radical left, the Taliban and al-Qaida. Their goal seems to be one and the same, the destruction of the U.S. of A. as we know it. If I thought that the purpose of these writers was the improvement of the U.S. I could understand but it is not, it is to change our country to something that they will be more comfortable living in.

I was saddened last week when I read about Kevin Mahle's resignation of his fire chief position. As a Nisswa volunteer fire fighter, I have had the privilege of being at mutual aid fire scenes and learning from his expertise. I have also attended classes that Chief Mahle has taught and he does an excellent job in that department.

My friend's son was denied lunch at Franklin because his account went dry the day before and he forgot to tell his parents. His tray was tossed in the garbage and he was hungry and humiliated. His parents, myself and everyone else pays taxes for low-income children to eat out of the "program" but it is district policy to dump a tray and let a student go hungry. How do you feel about hunger, waste, humiliation? Sounds like prisoner abuse? It's not a first. I heard of another case, too.
