BEMIDJI - The second-seeded Brainerd Warriors beat No. 3 Alexandria 7-0 in the first game but lost to top-seeded Bemidji 4-0 in the North Subsection 8-3A championship game Thursday.
Against Alexandria, Brainerd's Nikki Anderson pitched a two-hitter, struck out 10 and walked two in a complete game.
Hallsey Olson was 3-for-4 and scored three Warrior runs, Anna Tadych and Jenni Smolke were 2-3 and Ashley Tibbitts had a two-run single.
Anderson pitched 5.1 innings against Bemidji, allowing all four runs and six hits with five strikeouts. Karlie Manton finished, allowing no hits and fanning one. Dani Thiesse was 2-3 for the Warriors, who finish 16-6 overall.
"It really was a good season," Warriors coach Mike Zauhar said. "We lost in the conference championship game, and we were right in (the conference race) the whole way. Today, in the subsection final, we lost to another good team.
"With a host of underclassmen the future looks really bright. We're pleased with the way (the season) went."
