Home Stretch, a first-time homebuyer education workshop, will be offered from 6-9 p.m. June 8, 15 and 22 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
The three-night workshop educates first-time homebuyers about the process of buying a home. Topics include financing and mortgage approval process, budget and credit issues, real estate, closing procedures, basic home maintenance and affordable mortgage products that may be available. Some affordable mortgage products, first-time homebuyer products and government loans may require a buyer to receive a Home Stretch certificate.
The Central Minnesota Housing Partnership, a nonprofit organization providing affordable housing services to central Minnesota, coordinates the Home Stretch workshops.

GLAR members help plan national real estate road to recovery
Three Brainerd lakes area real estate professionals recently joined approximately 8,000 real estate agents who gathered on Capitol Hill in an effort to help stabilize the real estate market and encourage economic recovery as part of the National Association of Realtors Midyear Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo.
The meetings took place May 11-16. Holly Connaker of Positive Realty, Kevin Goedker of Goedker Realty and Janie Weston, Greater Lakes Association of Realtors chief executive officer, all from Baxter, attended the expo.
Connaker, Goedker and Weston participated in the NAR's "Real Estate Summit: Advancing the U.S. Economy," an all-day program of sessions to address and meet the challenges facing today's residential and commercial real estate markets. Realtors were joined by a number of policy leaders and industry experts.
Connaker, Goedker and Weston also met with Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Congressman Jim Oberstar and Sen. Amy Klobuchar to reiterate the importance of the real estate market and discussed protecting the mortgage interest deduction, facilitating short sales, easing limitations on mortgage availability and encouraging mortgage reform, ensuring affordable insurance through small business health care plans and initiating effective energy efficiency legislation.
