STAPLES -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals and Katie Crawford stung the Perham Yellowjackets 5-3 in Subsection 3, Section 8, Class 2A softball Tuesday.

Crawford drilled a single in the bottom of the sixth inning that drove in two runs and sealed the victory.

"You talk about clutch, that was it," Cardinals coach Bruce Onischuk said of Crawford's hit.

PIERZ -- Pierz was led by senior Stacy Tretter, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI, as the Pioneers hammered Carlton-Wrenshall to advance in the Section 7, Class 2A tournament.

Pierz's Kayla Pohlkamp went 2-for-5, Kristen Kapsner went 3-for-5 with two runs and Kayla Meyer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

PEQUOT LAKES -- Emma Hoglund pitched a complete-game shutout as Pequot Lakes dismantled Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in the Subsection 4, Section 8, Class 2A tournament Tuesday.

Jenna Carlson went 1-for-4, but made her lone hit count, a bases-loaded double in the second that cleared the bases. The Patriots' Courtney Markham went 2-4 with two RBI.

The Huskies' Tara Buckingham went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.

BATTLE LAKE -- The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were shut out by top-seeded Ottertail Central in a Subsection 3, Section 8, Class 2A game Tuesday.

Ottertail's Heidi Glass pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
