There's a new twist on a 2-year-old golf fundraiser.
After the inaugural Brainerd High School Alumni golf tournament attracted 21 teams, the tournament committee has upped the stakes and hopes to fill the 36-team field.
The committee has called in the name recognition and Super Bowl ring of Chip Lohmiller to raise awareness and participation for the July 18 event at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's.
"When it has to do with golf and raising funds for kids or young adults and providing opportunities for them, I'm more than happy to help," said Lohmiller, the Pequot Lakes head football coach and former NFL and University of Minnesota kicker. "I'll be there to meet people, play golf and just hang out and tell stories."
Lohmiller used to organize his own golf fundraiser to help the Pequot Lakes hockey program before formation of the Blue Line Club. He also helps with the University of Minnesota fundraiser at Cragun's.

But helping children has been one of Lohmiller's passions.
"Anytime I can give experiences and try and lead young adults on the right path, keep them out of trouble and provide them with opportunities they may not have had before I enjoy it," Lohmiller said. "I'm able to share my experiences and tell people how I got there.
"Anytime you can help out in the community and show that you need to attend school and stay out of trouble to be successful I'm happy to help."
Tournament proceeds go toward the Brainerd Schools Foundation and will be donated in the name of former Brainerd teacher and coach Mark Embretson.
The event is a four-person scramble. The $100 per person, or $400 per team entry fee, includes, 18 holes of golf, cart and dinner following golf.
Players must preregister and can do so by visiting the Brainerd School District Web site (www.isd181.org) and clicking on the Brainerd alumni tab in the left-hand column, or by contacting Todd Lyscio at (218) 454-6904 or e-mailing email@example.com.
The tournament, which has a 1 p.m. shotgun start, consists of two divisions. One is for BHS alumni, the other is for ISD 181 supporters who did not graduate from Brainerd.
The committee is also seeking a tournament sponsor and hole sponsors. Lyscio may be contacted for that information, too.
Donations and prizes are also welcome.
On June 13 the Crosby-Ironton Sports Boosters will host a golf fundraiser at Cuyuna Country Club.
Proceeds will go toward the Save Our Sports fund.
The $100 entry fee includes golf, cart and steak dinner. Check in begins at noon for the four-person scramble followed by a 2 p.m. shotgun start.
The tournament committee is also seeking hole sponsors and prize donations.
