We should have the same laws

Posted: Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Can anyone do anything about the "garbage houses" on Hartley Lake Road? It seems the laws regarding multiple disabled autos, boats and junk stored in yards doesn't apply to everyone, not to mention storing garbage for a year then burning it for the neighbors to enjoy along with the rodent problems. It's no wonder a person cannot sell their property in the neighborhood. Upon hearing from the county that multiple complaints have already been made but the county cannot "dictate" how someone lives makes me wonder why everyone doesn't have to live by those same laws?

Appreciates the concerned neighbors

Thank you to the homeowners and renters (in Brainerd) for calling the police regarding the underage drinking and marijuana party that occurred May 16, 2008. I am a parent who had to pick up my son (who lied about his whereabouts that night) and I am glad you acted on this situation before anyone was hurt. I am disappointed in my son's behavior but proud of your good citizenship. I hope there are a lot more concerned neighbors like you out there.

'WalleyeDan' was perfect choice

I've had the privilege of fishing with many area guides. They all catch fish to some extent, but some days the fish don't bite. When you're in the boat, it's the personality of the guide that can keep people coming back. WalleyeDan has the patience to teach both non-fisherman adults and children, unlike another "more experienced" local guide. Since the governor has been outfished, he might need special guiding and patience. Obviously he's not a quick learner. WalleyeDan was the perfect choice.

Flagman struck and killed near Chaska

I would like to let people know that when they come into a construction zone, they need to slow down and be very alert as to what is going on. This is a big tragedy. I work for Minnesota Department of Transportation and in February 2007, I was struck by a vehicle that was doing more than 50 mph. Now I think it's time people wake up and slow down in construction areas. I also think our legislators need to pass laws enforcing this. Enough is enough.

New parking lot

I just wonder about that new parking lot they're putting in front of Franklin over there. I don't understand it. I'm sure just to do the construction on that was probably a half a million dollars or at least a quarter of a million dollars and I have no idea what was wrong with the old parking lot. They could have spent $500 and painted parking lot lines and it would have been over.

Do some research

High time someone calls out Dan Eigen. I am extremely tired of listening to his self-aggrandizement (ask the attendees of the Nisswa Chamber dinner). It is one thing to be a shameless self-promoter locally, but when his facade carries him to the level of guiding the governor, it is embarrassing to us all in the lakes area. The editor will perhaps again defend Dan by calling this simply jealousy. I would simply say to the editor, do your job and then some research, into the character of the so called "WalleyeDan."

Editor's note: The lakes area is good for controversy. This week it's WalleyeDan. What will it be next week?

Forget the politics

Everyone should see the movie "Inconvenient Truth" which tells us of the global warming issue in this country. Al Gore was given the Nobel Prize award honor for his much deserved input and achievement toward this important environmental issue. Let's respect reality. Some things we have to face in life. Give credit when it's due. Forget the politics on this serious issue.
