I am going to inform you of hidden treasures in the lakes area. Whether you are a lifelong lakes area resident, vacationer or a summer resident, we welcome you to come and check out the hidden treasures for yourself.
The Golden Years Gift Shop at the center has some of the most beautiful handcrafted items you'll find in the lakes area. Treasures you'll find are bird feeders, jewelry, art work, home furnishings, adult and baby clothing and more. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We invite you to stop in and look for rare finds of your own, I know you'll leave and be back again.
The senior center itself is a hidden treasure. If you are age 55 or better, we have many programs, activities and events for you to participate in. Each day of the week has its own events: Monday - greeting card recycling, bridge and cribbage; Tuesday - open craft and painting, card playing 500; Wednesday - rosemaling, Senior Morning Club and bingo; Thursday - fresh doughnuts and coffee, wood carving and a band jam session with dancing; Friday - greeting card recycling and card playing, 500. We also have a computer lab with instructional classes to get you surfing the web.
Thanks to the United Way for donating funds to help pay for a bus. The center is planning bus trips each month to a variety of locations.
Staying healthy and active is important as we age. We offer a variety of exercise classes to assist you. Bone Builders meets Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 11 a.m. We also have received a grant from the St. Joseph's Foundation to purchase exercise equipment and are in the process of adding to our equipment base. Stop in and check it out, with just a few minutes, a couple of times a week, you'll be feeling younger and fit.
Hidden treasures may be hard to find, but once you've found them you cherish their value. The Lakes Area Senior Activity Center is a treasure you will value for many years. Stop in and ask for a tour, you'll be glad you did.
