At least they'll be back
It seems all we've been doing the past few weeks is mourning the loss of our favorite shows like "Friends, "The Practice," "Frasier" and "Angel." Three more favorites bow out this week, but only for the summer, thankfully. The increasingly watchable "Joan of Arcadia" wraps its first season at 7 p.m. Friday on CBS, the stalwart "Simpsons" concludes its 15th season at 7 p.m. Sunday on Fox, and Season 3 of the nail-biter "24" ticks down at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Fox.
Thursday: Music
A Disney celebration
The sixth- and seventh-grade choirs from Mississippi Horizons will pay tribute to songs from animated classics with "A Disney Silly Sing-Along," while the eighth- and ninth-grade choirs present a medley from the Broadway musical "The Lion King." The concert begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, in Brainerd. Admission is free.
Saturday: Music
Blues and barbecue
Those two staples of a good time will be served up at the "Blues and BBQ Summer Kickoff" Saturday at Matty's in Lake Shore. The eats will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with blues crooner Janiva Magness to follow from 3:30 to 7 p.m. A $10 cover takes care of the eats and tunes; refreshing adult beverages are extra.
Saturday: Music
A tribute to Elvis
Bow before the King when Tommy Warren presents the dinner show "Elvis Memories" Saturday at T Maxwell's in Staples. The Las Vegas-style show comes complete with costumes, staging, special effects and the backup band Cocktail Steve and the Tablerockers. Warren takes a respectful approach to the King, but also knows how to rock. Dinner is at 5 p.m. with shows at 7 and 9:15 p.m. Admission is $24.95 for dinner and show and $9.95 for the second show. Call (218) 894-4000 for reservations.
