S-M boys match girls, take Mid-State

STAPLES -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals boys' golf team, led by Pat Helling's 80, took first place in the Mid-State Conference Golf Tournament Friday at the Vintage golf course in Staples.

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines took fourth place led by Charley Speed and Jason Merickel who both shot 83.

The Crosby-Ironton Rangers placed sixth led by Ricky Aulie who took third overall with a score of 79.

Team scores -- 1- Detroit Lakes 321, 2- Staples-Motley 328, 3- Park Rapids 335, 4- Wadena-Deer Creek 337, 5- Crosby-Ironton 338

Individual medalist -- Brian Geihl (DL) 76
