Lowell 'Lou' Guntzburger

AITKIN -- Lowell "Lou" E. Guntzburger, 90, Aitkin and McGregor, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at the Aicota Nursing Home in Aitkin.

He was born June 24, 1909, in Faribault to Edward and Elizabeth (Winters) Guntzburger. He moved with his family at a young age to St. Paul where he attended school, graduating from St. Paul Johnson High School. He married Muriel Korfhage in 1928 in St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul and he worked various jobs. He also served three years in the Marine Corps Reserves. In 1938, they moved to Fort Atkinson, Wis., and he was a truck driver. In 1955, they moved to California and he worked for a trucking company as a district manager. He retired in 1978, living along Big Sandy Lake near McGregor in the summers. He moved to Aitkin in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Williams, Temecula, Calif., and Carole Bauer, Denver; a son, Robert Guntzburger, McGregor; a sister, Audrey Damiani, Valencia, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

His wife and a brother, Stanley, died earlier.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church near McGregor.

Friends may call one hour before both services.
