20 years ago (1988)

Brainerd's Gretchen Smith was medalist and the Warriors defeated Bemidji 199 to 217 in a girls' golf dual meet at Brainerd Country Club. Smith shot a 47.

30 years ago (1978)

Mike Olson and Wayne Thiesse were busy planting corn yesterday in their adjoining fields just south of Brainerd. The dry conditions of the fields is evident from the dust, but today's rains should help the situation.

40 years ago (1968)

A 17-pound northern from Gull Lake and a 7-9 walleye from Pelican Lake were the top prizes weighed in at King's Sporting Goods here over the opening weekend of the fishing season.

60 years ago (1948)

Approximately 200 persons witnessed what is believed to have been Brainerd's first store style show at J.C. Penney's yesterday evening. Complete with stage, flowers and spotlights as 10 models displayed summer dresses and children's warm weather clothes.

80 years ago (1928)

Repainted golf balls at 10. Good practice balls, satisfactory for any golfer. Four clubs and bag, $5.95. Gambles Stores.

100 years ago (1908)

Surely nicer days could not have been given for the cleaning days. Nature is doing her full part and man should do his. The rake is being used with good effect and many lawns are being made prettier than ever before.
