Why are you running for this office? "I have always had an interest in serving on the Crow Wing County Board. Out of respect to Jinx Ferrari, I wanted to wait until he decided to retire. After 42 years of law enforcement, the last 12 as your sheriff, I believe that I bring a unique perspective to the job of county commissioner. I believe that the job of commissioner should be to monitor all aspects of county government, and also remain approachable and accessible to the public. Constituents must feel that their concerns are being adequately addressed and that they are truly being represented by their commissioner."
Out of a field of 12 candidates, what sets you apart from the other candidates? "I believe that my leadership, business and public relations experience would help in taking on this job. Serving Crow Wing County, first as chief deputy and then as sheriff, I had numerous opportunities to go before the county board with budget requests and concerns. Graduating from high school in Crosby-Ironton, and then working as a police officer in the city of Ironton, I understand the strong sense of community in this area. At this point in my life, I have the time to commit to the various committees and board meetings that would be required of this position."
What do you think is the most important issue facing Crow Wing County? "Crow Wing County is one of the fastest growing areas in the state of Minnesota. Over my years in county government, I have had the opportunity to watch this area change to meet the needs of the increase in population and respond to this growth. Our challenge is to maintain our sense of community while allowing the area to expand to meet the needs of this growing population. Property taxes are an area of concern to everyone. I take great pride in the people of Crow Wing County and value the quality of life that we all enjoy here."
