20 years ago (1984)

A inviting place. That's the way a library should be and that is the kind of library the Brainerd Library board has in mind. The board outlined its plans for a new Brainerd Public Library Monday night to the city council.

30 years ago (1974)

Fears that this might be a bad year for the resort business seem to have faded somewhat as thousands of fisherman swarmed into the area for the opening. Officials in the resort business also say that reservations are running about as high as normal as the summer vacation season approaches.

40 years ago (1964)

This year reveals that Brainerd had a banner construction record last year and can expect a continuation of heavy building activity this year. Major projects last year included an expansion of Northern Paper Company and the state school and hospital.

60 years ago (1944)

The Riverview Cafe located at 22 Washington Street, which has been closed for some time, will open again under the management and ownership of W.C. Mumford, formerly in the restaurant business in St. Cloud.

80 years ago (1924)

Within a short period the Brainerd Dispatch will inaugurate a photo-gravure section featuring first of all, home scenes of rare merit and beauty, supplemented by pictures of national interest covering current events.

100 years ago (1904)

There was a real game of ball yesterday morning at Athletic Park between two teams from the N.P. Machine shops. The score was 10 to 9. It is said that those present saw a real good exhibition of the national game.
