WALKER -- Cass County Commissioners Rusty Lilyquist and Bob Kangas will represent the board on a committee with County Engineer David Enblom and Land Commissioner Norm Moody to develop plans and recommend a site for a new county building in Backus.
Moody and Enblom first suggested the building project as a way to consolidate their building needs in a more cost-efficient way by sharing some building requirements in one location.
With added suggestions for future county needs from county commissioners and the administrator, the possible building complex consulting architect Paul Richards of Widseth, Smith and Nolting presented Tuesday could be much larger and accommodate a lot more uses.
Administrator Robert Yochum suggested the project might be phased rather than built all at once.
Richards proposed two possible sites in Backus. One is along Highway 87, south of downtown Backus, on county-owned land. It is within 500 feet of city sewer and water.
An area along Highway 371, south of the Backus junction with Highway 87 offers the second alternate site, Richards presented. The county currently does not own land here.
