Direct price levels were: slaughter steers percent lean over 80% Choice 74.50-79.00, weighted average price 75.91; 35-65% Choice 72.50-75.50, weighted average price 74.94; 1-35% Choice 73.85-75.25, weighted average price 74.40. Slaughter steers dressed basis: percent lean over 80% Choice 119.00-128.00, weighted average price 123.38. Slaughter heifers 35-65% Choice 72.00-75.50 weighted average price 74.94. Terminal Markets: In South St. Paul terminal market slaughter steers were not adequately tested to establish a trend. Cattle slaughter under federal inspection through Saturday was estimated at 728,000 head compared to 724,000 a week ago and 719,000 a year ago.

Feeder Heifers Medium-Large 1: 625-650 lbs. 88.50-96.00; 706 lbs. 88.30; 750-800 lbs. 81.00-85.70; 800-830 lbs. 77.30-79.70; 950 lbs. 76.30.
For the Week: Direct trade of slaughter steers and heifers were steady to 1.00 higher for the week. Slaughter steers and heifers at the terminal markets this week traded mostly steady however, at Sioux Falls price levels were steady to 1.00 lower. South St. Paul slaughter cows ended the week 1.00 higher.
At terminal markets barrow and gilt prices closed steady, 220-260 lb 47-51 percent lean hogs from 50.00-53.00. The National direct trade prices are based on 185 lbs. hog carcass with 0.9-1.1 inch backfat and 6 inch square lion/2.0 inch depth plant delivered. National direct trade closed firm to .50 higher at 66.75-78.03 with average price of 72.52. Iowa-S. Minnesota direct trade was firm to 1.00 higher at 63.50-72.64 with an average price of 69.87. The Western Cornbelt Lean Carcass value for Friday was mostly .50 higher ranging 62.75- 72.76, average price 70.44. The Eastern Cornbelt Lean Value was uneven, mostly steady at 64.50-73.00, average price 69.25. Hog slaughter under federal inspection through Saturday was estimated at 1,751,000 head compared to 1,793,000 a week ago and 1,753,000 a year ago.
For the Week: Direct trade for barrows and gilts was 1.00-1.25 higher. Barrow and gilt trade at terminal markets begin the week with steady to higher prices. However, by week's end prices became steady with last week to slightly lower.
Slaughter lambs were steady in a very narrow test. Spring New Crop: Choice, end Prime 2-3 110-130 lbs. 85.00-87.00; Fall Shorn and Old Crop: Choice, end Prime 2-3 110-130 lbs. with 1-2 pelts 83.00-85.00. The Midwest Direct trade is unavailable. Sheep and lamb slaughter under federal inspection through Saturday was estimated at 49,000 head compared to 50,000 a week ago and 57,000 a year ago.
For the Week: Slaughter lamb trade at Midwest terminal markets were generally steady with last week.
