SUN CITY, Ariz. -- George McKinley Simons, 87, of Sun City, Ariz., and Brainerd, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in Arizona. He was born on Jan. 31, 1917, in Elysian, Minn. George served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He will be lovingly remembered as a kind, patient, practical, funny, lover of children, expert fisherman, gardener, card player and world traveler by his devoted wife of 63 years, Eleanor; his children and spouses, Judy and Roger Bolan, Jane and Gary Hopping, Mike and Grace Simons, Linda and Tom Herzog; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Bob Twiton officiating. Burial will be in Vaale Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family to be used for advancement in the cure of cystic fibrosis. Local arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.
