Leslie B. Lindberg, 83, Brainerd, died on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born on March 6, 1921, in Crow Wing County to Rudolph and Anna (Koering) Lindberg. He married Bonita Stanley on Dec. 31, 1941, in Brainerd. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 being stationed in Hawaii for two years. He worked for SFBN railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW. He built two homes for his family and loved to garden, fish, restore cars and spend time at the cabin he built on Gull River.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie of Brainerd; his son, Michael (Mary) Lindberg of Brainerd; his daughters, Roxanne (Bud) Soderman of Aitkin, Minn., Kristi (Dan) Duus of Des Moines, Iowa, and Shari (Lee) Laski of Oregon, Wis.; his brothers, Dwight (Marilyn) of Brainerd, Rudy (Georgena) of Milwaukee, and Duane (Shirley) of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia Hughes; one brother, Raymond Lindberg; and one grandson, Kent E. Soderman.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 1647 and the American Legion Post No. 255, both of Brainerd. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
