Quinn Nystrom, a Brainerd High School senior, was awarded a $25,000 AXA Achievement Scholarship. The honor was announced Monday during Brainerd High School's Senior Recognition Evening banquet.
Nystrom, 18, Baxter, who plans to attend Concordia College in Moorhead to pursue a degree in public relations, was one of 10 students in the country selected for the award and is the first Minnesotan to be honored.

Nystrom, who was invited in March to New York City to address 2,000 AXA employees, received the scholarship for her work to find a cure for diabetes. Nystrom and her younger brother, Will, are two of the 18 million Americans with diabetes. Last year, she served as the National Youth Advocate for the American Diabetes Association. She has spoken extensively in Minnesota and her Team Nystrom has been named top fund-raiser for Minnesota's annual Walk for Diabetes for two consecutive years.
She serves as senior class president and student council co-president.
