Owen named to All-NSIC team

Brainerd High School graduate Derek Owen of Bemidji State University has been named to the All-NSIC baseball team.

Owen, a senior designated hitter, hit .375 and led the team in home runs with five. His slugging percentage of .653 was second on the team. He was fifth in hits (27), third in RBI (26) and third in total bases (47).

BSU won the NSIC regular-season title and hosted the conference tournament May 10-12, losing to Wayne State (Neb.) 16-2 and to eventual champion Southwest State 12-8.

Traveling team report forms available

Coaches of Brainerd softball and baseball traveling teams may pick up game report forms at Brainerd or Baxter parks and recreation offices or from The Brainerd Dispatch sports department.

Pierz honors Saehr, Stegora

Shiela Stegora and Dan Saehr were named Pierz athletes of the year and student athletes of the year at the Healy High School Arts and Academics Awards Night Wednesday.

Pro wrestling at Crosby Saturday

R and R Pro Wrestling will present "The Rumble on the Range" 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Crosby-Ironton High School.

Scheduled performers include Doctor X, Shiek Adnonn El Kaissey, Izzy and Sammy Savard, Buck "Rock N Roll" Zumhoff and Nathan "the Patriot" Strong.

Also featured will be a midget match between Kerry "the Chicago Kid'" Townsend and "Cowboy" Chad Lange and a women's match between Daisy May against Louisa Liece.

Special guests will include Mad Dog Vachon and referees Anthony "The Bullet" Bonsante and Dave "Stingray" Jopp of 3WI-Radio.

Advance ticket prices are $5 for general admission, $10 for ringside. Remaining seats will be $15 at the door.

Advance tickets are available in Crosby at Dave's Pit Stop and Gary's Sports Bar and Grill.

Three area schools in True Team meet

The Pierz girls and Pequot Lakes and Staples-Motley boys will compete in the True Team state track and field meet Saturday at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

Pierz and Pequot Lakes will compete in the Class 1A meet at 10 a.m. Staples-Motley competes in the Class 2A meet at 3 p.m.
