The newly formed Starlight Student Theater Co. will present the musical "Godspell" at 7 p.m. May 25, 26 and 27 in the Starlight Student Lounge at First Presbyterian Church on Eighth Street South in Brainerd.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students and will be available at the door.
The Starlight Student Theater Co. was formed in March when a group of students from Brainerd High School, including Matt Cummings, the company's director, approached First Presbyterian Church and asked to perform a student-produced musical in the Starlight Student Lounge.
The lounge is a euro-style coffee house, which hosts concerts, dances, parties and a daily after-school program for teens.
The lounge was created through church fund-raisers and grants from the Bremer Foundation and Community Asset Builders.
Students received funding for the musical production from Youth As Resources, a youth-driven, grassroots funding agency sponsored by the Family Services Collaborative, the Initiative Foundation, Community Action and the Bremer Foundation.
The theater company plans to use the funds raised by the musical to develop original skits and plays on drug use and violence prevention that will tour in elementary schools in the fall.
Next year, the theater company organizers hope to create a theater arts training program at the Starlight Student Lounge. They also plan to continue productions of various plays and musicals for teen participation.
