MOORHEAD -- Staples native Amanda Hoffert helped the University of Minnesota-Duluth women's track and field team capture its eighth straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championship last weekend.
Hoffert, a freshman, scored two points for the Bulldogs by placing fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 27.78 seconds.
Warriors JV baseball team loses 5-4
The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity baseball team lost 5-4 to Monticello Tuesday.
Brent Potvin pitched six innings, allowing one earned run. Ted Nichols pitched in relief. Leading hitters for Brainerd were Lance Herbst and Matt Bower, both of whom were 2-for-4.
Stumvoll, Klingaman, Tholl compete at MSU
Three Brainerd area athletes competed in track and field or cross country at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Aron Stumvoll, a freshman from Nisswa, was a member of the cross country and track and field teams. He finished a season-best fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.27 at the Bluegold Invite (Jan. 26). Eric Klingaman, a freshman from Staples, participated in five cross-country meets, including a season-best 10th-place finish at the MSU Open (Oct. 21) with a time of 28:17.a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:50.06).
Justin Tholl, also a freshman from Staples, participated on the MSU cross country and track and field squads.
