DEERWOOD -- Stanley W. Holmvig, 68, Deerwood, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at home.
He was born April 27, 1933, in Crosby to Marvin and Marie (Burgwald) Holmvig. He married LaVerne E. Beseman on June 30, 1956, in Cedarbrook. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood, the Cuyuna Range Masonic Lodge No. 276 AF and AM, Crosby, and a member and past commander of the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post 557 of Deerwood. He was 32 degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA; and Shrine Noble with AAD Temple, Duluth. He was owner and operator of Stan's Dragline with 30 years of excavating service. He retired from the Union of Operating Engineers, Local 49. He was a past member of the Teamster Union Local 346 in Duluth.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Randy Holmvig, Deerwood, Steve Holmvig, Aitkin, and Scott Holmvig, St. Cloud; a daughter, Sherri Godfrey, Deerwood; his mother and stepfather, Marie and Harlan Peterson, Deerwood; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Conrad Holmvig and Jerry Holmvig, Aitkin; and a sister, Eileen Palm, New Brighton.
His father died earlier.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood with the Rev. David N. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Scandia Cemetery in Deerwood.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
