Central Lakes College will recognize retiring faculty and staff in a tribute at 10 a.m. Friday in Chalberg Theatre on the Brainerd campus.
Those to be honored have a total of 181 years of state service among them.
Among them is Lowell Scearcy, who resigned last fall after serving first as a volunteer assistant coach and later head football coach, serving 34 years in all.
Retirees to be recognized are Laraine Myers, Staples campus library support, 33 years; Rock Lindsay, automotive technology instructor, 32 years; Reggie McCarthy, administrative and office assistant instructor, 32 years; Linda Anderson, nursing instructor, 19 years; Joyce Moran, English instructor, 17 years; and Dennis Mack, Brainerd media center support, 14 years.
Lindsay, McCarthy, Anderson and Moran will join 2006 retirees Richard Anderson, Gary Donner, Marie Esser, Stephen Haasch, Genevieve Holden and Robert Miller as faculty emeriti. Each receives a commemorative pin and their names will be added to a perpetual plaque.
Faculty emeritus is accorded those instructors who have "performed duties in teaching, scholarship, student development and/or service to students or faculty."
Also recognized will be 37 employees who have attained 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years of service.
Health care author to speak Thursday
Dave Racer, who co-authored the book, "Your Health Matters: What You Need to Know About U.S. Health Care," will speak at the monthly meeting of the Paul Bunyan Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors at noon Thursday at the Northland Arboretum.
Racer is a founding president of The Declaration Foundation and the former chairman of The Constitution Educational Foundation. During much of the 1990s, Racer hosted The Dave Racer Show, a daily radio program in the Twin Cities. He also is the former publisher of Dave Racer's Minnesota Report, a monthly tabloid investigative newspaper.
