ALEXANDRIA -- Senior right-hander Matt Means pitched a one-hitter to lead the Brainerd Warriors to a 3-0 Central Lakes Conference baseball win over the Alexandria Cardinals Tuesday.
Means struck out three and walked two. The only hit he permitted was a two-out, fourth-inning single by Alexandria second baseman Mike Hoelscher.
Mike Zauhar, Nick Weiland and Dan Kirkpatrick each had two hits for the Warriors, who improved to 10-2 in the conference, 15-3 overall.
After four scoreless innings, the Warriors tallied in the fifth. Weiland led off with a single, moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Tim Siekas, and scored on Means' single.
The Warriors scored two insurance runs in the seventh. With one out, Jason Goerges and Zauhar hit consecutive singles. A walk to Joey Tautges preceded Weiland's RBI single. Siekas' sacrifice fly drove in the final Brainerd run.
