May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. A time to recognize the achievements of the 10 million Americans with roots in more than 30 Asian and pacific nations. Activist Jeannie Jew chose May because the first Japanese immigrants arrived in the United States in May 1834. These workers-- many of them Chinese, finished the nation's first transcontinental railroad in May 1869. Asian Americans have a big impact on the United States and our culture.
The U.S. is often called the nation of immigrants. Where did your ancestors come from? How have immigrants from those countries helped to shape America?
