Are you ready for the summer of 2001? What are you doing over the summer? Keep a log book of your activities. Even if you just write the activities on a daily calendar. After a week of logging, look over your entries. Are your activities well rounded? Do you have some sports activities, some activities with friends, some with family, some educational?
If you need some suggestions we have a few for you.
* Make a collage that shows all the things you like about one of your friends. Look through newspapers, magazines and catalogs for pictures or words that describe your friend. Do a final check of your collection to make sure they are OK. Arrange them on a blank paper. Glue your collage onto the paper. Give it to your friend and explain what the pictures and words mean and how they relate to your friendship.
* Join the Brainerd Public Library's Summer Reading Program. This year's theme will be "Woffin' Down @ Your Library". The summer reading program will begin on June 11 and ends on August 11. There will be other library programs going on throughout the summer. Watch The Dispatch for details.
* Plan out a family activity. Survey your family. Find out a good time for a family activity for everyone. What kinds of activities are your family members interested in? Need some ideas? Bike the Paul Bunyan Trail, picnic at Gregory Park, camp at Crow Wing State Park, hike the Arboretum, fish North Long Lake or the fishing pier at Lum Park, go see a movie on a rainy night, softball in your backyard, now think of some ideas of your own.
I wish you a safe and happy summer and look forward to your classroom participating in Newspapers in Education next fall!
