Habitat for Humanity golf tournament

The third annual Habitat for Humanity Golf tournament is scheduled June 3 at Irish Hills Golf Course.

The tournament is a nine-hole, four-person scramble and will begin at 1 p.m. Dinner will follow.

Entry fee is $40 per person which includes cart. For more information call (218) 543-4159 or (218) 562-4748 before May 30.

Pine River women's league

The Pine River County Club Ladies League meet each Thursday through September 13th. Registration and coffee is at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The four person scramble winners for Thursday May 10th are as follows: 1st place: Georgi Ashlin, Eileen Springer, Luanne Shubert and Lurene Seaton. 2nd place tie: Betty Lindholm, Hazel Jensen, Pat Hardy, Esther Solarz, Carol Coult, Caroline Reisdorf, Joyce Shackle and Dorla Lind.

Any Lady golfer interested in a 2nd league at about 5:15 on Tuesday evening please call the Pine River Country Club house to express an interest.

Foley and Madden's

offer free lessons

Chris Foley, golf professional at Madden's Resort, will offer free 10-minute golf lessons in conjunction with the PGA of America and Golf Digest.

Lessons will be Friday, May 18 (4 to 6 p.m.), Saturday, May 19 (noon to 2 p.m.) and Thursday, May 31 (4 to 6 p.m.) .

To participate in the program, amateur golfers may call Madden's at 829-2811 or log on to www.chrisfoleygolf.com to set up a free lesson. For more information, look in the May issue of Golf Digest.

Foley is also starting a junior golf development school. The school is a six-week program covering all aspects of the game. It combines instruction and play. The days are June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5 and 12. Age divisions range from 6-10 and 11 and above.

Hole in one

Scott Seusen of Chaska knocked a 130-yard tee shot into the hole at the Preserve at Grand View Lodge's second hole May 10. Seusen was using a pitching wedge.

Babe Winkelman used a seven-iron to ace the 158-yard 12th at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's May 5.

Oldsmobile Challenge scheduled

The first area Oldsmobile Challenge is scheduled for June 10th at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's.

Israelson third

Bill Israelson shot a 54-hole 213 for third place at the Minnesota Golf Champions at Minneapolis Golf Club over the weekend.

Israelson, the golf professional at the Vintage in Staples shot rounds of 65-74-74.

Local golfers fail to qualify

Daryl Schomer of Pierz Municipal Golf Course and James Strandemo of Tianna Country Club failed to qualify for the U.S. Open at Bunker Hills Golf Club Monday.

Schomer fired a four-over-par 76 while Strandemo carded a 78.
