Jaycees announce 2009 marathon date

The Brainerd Jaycees have announced that the 2009 Run for the Lakes Marathon is scheduled April 24-25, 2009.

"The planning process has already begun for next year's event," marathon chairperson Sarah Sellnow said.

Next year's event will have two co-chairs, Heidi Hagen and Sean Kaneski.

"With their enthusiasm, I'm confident we will grow the marathon and have another great year in 2009," Sellnow said.

While 2009 marathon planning has begun, the inaugural year is being wrapped up. Five-kilometer participant times have been announced, the Web site is being updated and prizes are being mailed. The Run for the Lakes committee will also present a check to Brainerd Trail Restoration in the next month.

"We are so excited and thrilled with our first-year event, even with the blizzard we had," Jaycees president Sara Thompson said. "The runners still came out and gave it their all in all the events, the 5K, half marathon, relay marathon and marathon. Although the snow storm did occur, we would like to continue with the same weekend and just hope for better weather next year."

The Run for the Lakes committee is looking for photos taken by spectators. To submit a photo please visit www.runforthelakes.com.

"The Web site is in the process of a complete revamp to include results posting, an online store and more," Sellnow said, "This is an exciting process and we are going to continue to improve this event from year to year."
