20 years ago (1987)

Sixty-nine students in Brained High School's Class of 1987 qualified for the honor graduates list. They were honored at a ceremony Wednesday at the school.

30 years ago (1977)

John Straka, No. 1 singles player for the Brainerd Community College Tennis Squad, remained in contention for the singles title following three rounds of play in the MJCAA State Tennis Tournament here.

40 years ago (1967)

The Exchange Club of Brainerd will re-dedicate the Freedom Shrine at the Franklin Junior High School. The Freedom Shrine consists of facsimiles of important documents such a the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

60 years ago (1947)

The weatherman smiled on fishermen and women in the Brainerd area today with bright skies and just enough cool weather to lend pep to the sport of fishing.

80 years ago (1927)

The Drum Corps of the American Legion will give a benefit dance Wednesday evening at Birchdale. The Drum Corps is composed of from 15 to 20 members and is one of the peppiest of the smaller organizations of the city.

100 years ago (1907)

Brainerd can be made a very pretty city if there is concerted effort on the part of every citizen. Ancient Jerusalem was kept clean by its citizens; each one cleaned before his own door and that is precisely the thing needed in Brainerd.
