AITKIN -- Eileen M. Laine, 92, Aitkin, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Riverwood Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1908, in Nordland Township to Christen and Paulina (Blixt) Christensen. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1927. She attended business college and began working in the school superintendent's offices in Aitkin. She married Tauno V. Laine on Jan. 3, 1931, in Crosby. They lived north of Aitkin for about eight years. During World War II, the family relocated to Belleville, Ill., and then to Corpus Christi, Texas, where her husband did construction work on military bases. In 1944, they moved to Minneapolis and she worked at the local inn. In 1950 they moved to Payette, Idaho, and went into partnership with her sister. They operated the Bancroft Hotel. In 1955, she worked with her husband in the field of restaurant management. They operated restaurants in Caldwell, Idaho, and later two in Boise, Idaho. They returned to Minneapolis in 1964 and she worked at Anthonie's in Bloomington. They were also apartment managers. They moved back to the Aitkin area in 1982 and lived on her husband's parents' farm. They moved to Blackrock Terrace in Aitkin in 1997 and then moved to Aicota Nursing Home. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Warren Laine, Federal Way, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, six sisters, two brothers, and a daughter, Marilyn Peck, died earlier.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursda at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nordland Township with the Rev. Jason Talsness officiating. Burial will be Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
