MENOMONIE, Wis. - Gregory A. Veldman, 47, a former Brainerd resident, passed away at his home in Menomonie, Wis., on May 6, 2009.
Greg was born on Feb. 5, 1962, in Anaheim, Calif., to Dennis and Nita (Richter) Veldman. He graduated from Brainerd High School and married Grace Vega on Feb. 19, 1982. After graduating from St. Scholastica in Duluth with a bachelor of arts degree in international management he lived and worked in Costa Rica before returning to the United States to take various managerial positions in Minnesota and Wisconsin with Menards Inc.
There was nothing Greg enjoyed more than spending time on the water, sharing his love of skiing with his boys. It was amazing to watch Greg "show off" his many talents on the water and his boys carry on that legacy as they ski in the Chetek HydroFlights.
He is survived by sons, Dennis and Peter, of Chetek, Wis.; father, Dennis, of Venice Beach, Fla.; sisters, Brenda Tow and Lisa Meyer, of Brainerd, and Rebecca Veldman, of Duluth; by his aunts, uncle and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Greg will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nita; sister-in-law, Maria; brother-in-law, Rod; maternal grandparents, Emil and Helen Richter; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Ann Veldman.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Gabriel Waweru officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, Minn.
