Brainerd High School graduate Landon Stanfield was named Coe College men's basketball freshman of the year and its most improved player and was named freshman of the year in the Iowa Conference.
Stanfield scored 184 points, 6.8 per game, fourth on the team. He shot .401 from the field (61 of 152) and .682 at the free throw line (30 of 44). He was second on the team in 3-point field goals made (32) and third in minutes played (18.6).
Bell shots 80
Pierz senior Robert Bell shot an 80 in Monday's U.S. Open qualifying round at the Links at Northfolk.
Don Berry of Rogers and Jordan Ensrud of Anoka each shot 73 and Kane Hanson of Detroit Lakes shot 74 to advance to the regional qualifier.
Neugebauer player of week
Steph Neugebauer has been named the Central Lakes Conference softball player of the week ending May 10.
Neugebauer went 9-for-15 (.600) with two home runs, a double, two RBIs, scored two runs and played errorless defense at shortstop last week.

JV softball falls
The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity softball team was defeated by Rocori 4-1 Monday.
Amanda Finstad, Jenni Smolke, Della Gramer, Tarissa Laugton and Alicia Widmark all had hits for Brainerd. Chelsea Manton struck out four in the loss for Brainerd (11-2).
Warriors game postponed
Rain in Willmar postponed Tuesday's Brainerd Warriors baseball game at Willmar.
The game has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday in Brainerd and will be part of a doubleheader.
JV baseball 8-0
The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity baseball team improved to 8-0 Monday after defeating Upsala 21-2 in five innings.
Josh Tokarczyk pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs on three hits, five walks and one hit batsman with four strikeouts.
Ryan Elyea went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Seth Helland went 3-5 with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored. Jake Caughey went 2-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Brainerd is back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday at Adamson Field for a doubleheader against Perham.
