Traffic backed up late Friday afternoon from Sixth and Washington in Brainerd showed why the area is considered a hub for tourism. Anglers jammed the area highways.

Downtown Brainerd - Thursday Night Fever. Most downtown Brainerd businesses are now open Thursday nights until 9 p.m. "Be a Downtowner" and join in "Thursday Night Fever" in Downtown Brained - where you will find more of everything.
40 years ago (1968)
A group of area citizens decided that the $4 million campaign to expand and update St. Joseph's Hospital should not be abandoned and that immediate plans should be launched to seek community support for a campaign of funds.
60 years ago (1948)
Eugene Fremling, Washington High School junior, received the annual scholarship award of the Brainerd Junior Chamber of Commerce. The award consisted of a $25 check and a certificate.
80 years ago (1928)
Schools of the city are overpopulated. New school program is to be voted on May 23 which is the largest public building project ever undertaken in Brainerd.
100 years ago (1908)
Next Saturday night there should not be a tin can, a pile of ashes or rubbish visible in the entire city. Every resident should assist in this effort to make our city the city it desires to be.
