Betty Alderman spoke with Paul Harvey, radio and television personality who does promotional work for True Value hardware, at the recent semi-annual spring hardware buying show in Chicago. Mrs. Alderman and her husband Jim, owners of Alderman's in Brainerd, attended the show.

Paul Lagergren, 11-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lagergren, Brainerd, won the Grand Award in Bodine's Upper Midwest Organ contest held at St. Thomas College, St. Paul on May 5.

Another big effort is being made this week to put the budget of Brainerd's Chamber of Commerce in balance. Chamber officials here say that they are experiencing difficulty in securing enough firm pledges and payments to balance the budget.

Dr. V.E. Quanstrom was elected president of the Brainerd Rotary Club for 1943. Dr. Quanstrom succeeds Col. Henry Mills.

Gasoline was advanced two cents to 17 1/2 a gallon by several leading oil companies here today.
