ST. CLOUD - Led by two singles and three doubles victories, the Brainerd Warriors closed their regular season with a 13-meet win streak and their second straight Central Lakes Conference title with a 5-2 victory over the second-place St. Cloud Tech Tigers Tuesday.
"We played like conference champs tonight," Warriors coach Bruce Thompson said. "On Monday I told them you've got to play to win, you don't want to play not to lose. This is your time, you've got to step up.
"Under some adverse (wind) conditions I was really pleased with the guys. It was a great team win."
At No. 1 doubles the Warriors' Corey Kuglin-Nathan Henningson avenged an April 21 loss to Nate Wolters-Tyler Bates with a 6-3, 6-0 win. They trailed 3-0 before rattling off 12 straight wins to capture the match.
Devin Larson at No. 1 and Jordan Goos at No. 4 won individual matches for the Warriors.
The other Brainerd doubles wins were by the teams of Michael Ruen-Jared Anderson at at No. 2 and Chris Rud-Garth Askegaard at No. 3.
"Devin Larson really came through," Thompson said. "He won the first set, was down in the second, and came back in the third. Jordan Goos came up big in the third set. All our singles did a nice job.
"Our doubles were really on. Our doubles really controlled play."
