Scott LeDoux of Deerwood lost a split decision to Ron Lyle in a hard punching, heavyweight fight in Las Vegas. The 30-year-old LeDoux had the 37-year-old Lyle on the ropes in the third round for an eight-count, but couldn't put him away.

Some 70 teachers and administrators were hired by the Brainerd school board to carry out what Superintendent Elliot Whoolery called an ever growing summer school program.

The new dial telephone system will require a new method of alerting volunteer firemen of a fire. Under the old system a single button could be pushed by an operator at the telephone office; it would ring the phones of all firemen three times.

Eight million walleyed pike fry will be dumped into 15 lakes of the district today, with the largest amount going into Gull Lake. The fry were secured from the Whitefish hatchery at Jenkins.

Mrs. W. W. Hutchins entertained the ladies of Iola Council, No. 15, Degree of Pocahontas, of which she is a member, at her home last night. Games were played and refreshments served.
