NISSWA -- John D. Russell Sr., 65, Nisswa, Minn., died on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born on June 26, 1938, to William and Lila (Munson) Russell in Pine River, Minn. He worked for Durkees Spools for more than 20 years and worked for R.D. Offutt Potato Plant for 12 years. After his retirement, John worked for the Pequot Lakes Deli. He married Kathleen Stelt in Lake Hubert, Minn., on Oct. 13, 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was known as Mr. Fix-it.
Survived by his wife, Kathleen Russell of Nisswa; his sons, John Jr. (Julie) of Hugo, Minn., and Dale (Tina) of Backus, Minn.; his daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Parks of Pequot Lakes; his stepdaughters, Charlene (Greg) Wilson of Brainerd, and Melissa (Birt) Herman of Motley; his brother, William (Joyce) Russell of Moorhead; his sisters, Ardyth Holtz of Lockport, Ill., and Phyllis (Joe) Delk of Florida; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jane Russell.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Baptist Church in Backus with Pastor Jeffrey Broom officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Backus. Visitation will be on Friday, May 14, 2004, from 4-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church.
