The Miss Brainerd Lakes Scholarship Pageant will be 7 p.m. June 12 at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, in Brainerd.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 at the door; they go on sale May 24 at Brainerd Community Education at 828-5372.
Miss Minnesota Megan Torgerson will be a guest at the pageant. Contestants will compete judged in the categories of personal interview, talent, swimsuit, evening gown and question on stage. Miss Brainerd Lakes will receive a $1,500 scholarship and go on to compete in the 2005 Miss Minnesota Pageant. The first runner-up will receive a $700 scholarship and the second runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship.
Art Cart juried show deadline June 1
The Art Cart, the Brainerd Area Art Club's annual juried summer show, is accepting entries through June 1 for the show to be held July 14-17 and 21-24 at the Nisswa Pioneer Village.
Artists may enter two items to be juried. The categories are: graphite and pastel drawings, opaque works (oils and acrylics), transparent watercolors, printmaking (traditional and digital), mixed media, photography and three-dimensional works. Entry forms are due June 1. Entry fee is $20 for members and $45 for non-members.

On Stage selects fall play
On Stage Community Theatre, which presented "Grease" last fall, will perform "The Sound of Music" Oct. 7-17 at the Franklin Junior High School auditorium.
Auditions will be 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17-18 in the Mississippi Horizons School music room. Auditions are open to ages 7 and up. For more information, call (218) 829-7528.
Battle of Bands tickets on sale
Tickets are now on sale for Battle of the Bands, which will take place July 2 at Don Adamson Field as part of the American Celebration.
Tickets, priced at $5 or two for $8, are on sale through May 31 at The Warrior Outlet, Bridge of Harmony, Coco Moon, the Dispatch, Eclectic Cafe and Brainerd Community Action.

'Abstract Images' on display at CLC Gallery

CLC instructor judges book awards
Donna Salli of the Central Lakes College English faculty recently served as one of 34 judges for the Minnesota Humanities Commission Book Awards.
She attended the 16th annual Book Awards ceremony in St. Paul along with writers and publishers from across the state. Her selection as a judge came from years of involvement with The Loft and in other literary circles. She had spent two months reading the work of the entrants.
Brainerd readers reach goal
As part of National Library Week, the Brainerd Public Library issued a Million Page Reading Challenge to the community. During the month of April, readers of all ages were asked to take note of the number of pages they read and complete a short form at the library. The total came to 1,268,660 pages.
Prairie Fire auditions set in Pillager
PILLAGER -- Prairie Fire Children's Theater will hold auditions for the musical, "The Wizard of Oz," from 8 to 10 a.m. June 1 in the Performing Arts Area of the Pillager School.
Up to 75 local children, ages 7-18, are needed. Rehearsals will be held after auditions June 1 and 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. June 2 and 3. Dress rehearsal will be at 2 p.m. June 4.
The musical will be performed at 7 p.m. June 4 and June 5.
The fee to participate in the production is $25 per child. Registration and payment are due in the Community Education office by My 28.
Little Falls High School to present vocal concert
LITTLE FALLS -- Little Falls Community High School will present its Spring Vocal Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the school auditorium.
The Mixed Choir, Concert Choir and Jubileers will perform under the direction of Steven D. Mick. Featured selections include "Singing in the Rain," "Day by Day," "Sleep" and a medley of music by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
