Softball team loses its first two games

WILLMAR -- The once-beaten Willmar Cardinals ended the 10th-ranked Brainerd Warriors hopes for an unbeaten softball season Monday.

Willmar won the first game 3-0 despite collecting just three hits. The Cardinals had only five hits as they won the second game 6-3.

Brainerd slips to 15-2 overall. Its 15-0 start is believed to be the best in school history. Willmar improved to 16-1 overall.

Alyssa Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double in the first game for Brainerd. Losing pitcher Erin Donnelly gave up three hits, one earned run and walked four.

In the second game, Abby Rehberger was 2-for-4, Donnelly doubled and had two RBI, Erin Holznagel doubled and Paige Olson was 2-for-3.

Donnelly pitched one inning in the second game, giving up four earned runs and four hits. Megan Arns pitched the last five innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs. She struck five and walked six.
