Olson backs property tax relief bill
ST. PAUL - Sen. Mary Olson, D-Bemidji, supported the Senate tax swap bill that would establish both property tax relief and a new top income tax bracket. The Senate gave preliminary approval to the bill Thursday.
"Since the beginning of the session the Legislature has made reducing property taxes a top priority," Olson said.
She said the bill, if signed by the governor, would reduce tax levies in area school districts by the following amounts: $72,8176, Pine River-Backus School District; $75,189, Pillager; $9,320, Pequot Lakes; $14,759, Walker-Hackensack.
Pawlenty has said he'll veto the bill.
