I have a discrepancy with the school. My daughter's a seventh-grader and there are three or four pods in the school and one's going on a field trip to Valley Fair. The rest don't get to go because the school can't afford it. I think it's awful they spend millions of dollars on a school and they can't afford a bus to take the kids to Valley Fair. A lot of parents can't afford to take their kids places like that. It's good for the kids to go with their friends. It's outrageous. Some kids can go and some can't.
There are four teams of seventh-graders at Forestview Middle School and the teachers of each team decide where their team will go on their field trip, said Donna Whalen, seventh- and eighth-grade principal at Forestview. Whalen said there are no school funds used for the field trip. She said the students themselves pay for the field trip.
Minnesota Teen Challenge
Minnesota Teen Challenge is coming to Heritage Assembly of God Church Sunday for the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services. I highly recommend anyone listen to the beautiful music they sing and all the wonderful testimonials they give. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. These people are of all ages and this is for people of all ages.
Hard-core politics in the historical society? I think not. A nominating committee is just that in non-profits. Did the board members want to keep the nominations from the community off the ballot as write-in candidates? That would mean the people of the area would be completely out-of-the-loop of its own historical society. That would be hard-core politics. It's because of Mary Lou Moudry's quality work as director that Crow Wing County's museum has been named a Smithsonian Museum, one of just a few in the state.
Lawn mower noise
I was wondering if my neighbors were mowing the lawn, could I get a room for the night paid by the county because the noise is too loud by the lawn mower?
Disappointed by actions
In regard to the baseball game between St. Cloud Tech and Brainerd May 10, I was disappointed in the way the Brainerd students reacted. I'm from Brainerd but my grandson plays for St. Cloud. It was uncalled for the way they carried on -- poor sportsmanship, they yelled and carried on, the language they used. One kid had a T-shirt on that was so vulgar I wanted to ask him to put a jacket on. I was disappointed to be from Brainerd and be sitting there and have St. Cloud people thinking that's how we all act.
Noise on Highway 25
Too bad Mary Koep doesn't live on State Highway 25. I'm sure she would make the Minnesota Department of Transportation fill in the holes of the rumble strip down the middle of the highway. No longer can we enjoy a quiet evening on the deck without listening to the rumble of the wide boat trailers and campers rumbling by. Maybe we should go to a motel and bill it to the state. I wonder if they have someone like Don Ryan I could brown-nose into footing the bill.
