Scearcy to speak at final boosters meeting

Brainerd Warriors baseball coach Lowell Scearcy will be the speaker at the final Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting of they year, which begins noon Thursday at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen located behind the Triangle Store and Temple Baptist Church on Oak Street.

Golfer Zack Lundbohm, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.

Blues traveling team wins WBL tourney

The Brainerd Blues 13-under traveling baseball team won the Akadema Early Bird Tournament May 8-9 in Soderville.

The Blues defeated White Bear Lake 12-2 in 4 1/2 innings in the championship game behind the pitching of Karl Fruedenberg, Skyler Murray and Josh Tokarczyk.

In the final, Justin Tokarczyk was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Fruendenberg was 3-3 with two singles, a triple and three RBI. Tyler Kline was 3-3 with a double and RBI. Josh Tokarczyk was 2-2 with a triple and two RBI.

For the tournament, Kline was 7-for-9 with two doubles, six RBI and five stolen bases.

Junior high golfers second at Pine River

The Brainerd girls' junior high team took second in a meet at Pine River on Tuesday.

Leading the Warriors were Lucy Sweeney with a 57, Cassie Stenson had a 58, Tori Palony 60 and Elle Adams 66.

Schmitz commits to St. Scholastica

Central Lakes College Raiders men's basketball player Andy Schmitz has given a verbal commitment to play basketball for the College of St. Scholastica Saints next season.

Schmitz, a freshman from Hinckley, was the starting point guard for the Raiders this season, guiding them to their first Region 13 tournament in 37 years. He was also named to the All-North Division team.
