STAPLES -- Alyce Thorn, age 89, of Staples, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at the Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples. Services were at the Congregational Church in Staples with the Rev. Muriel Hachfeld officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Alyce was born Maud Alyce Doyle on Sept. 16, 1914, in Admiral, Saskatchewan, to Joseph and Cecil (Edwards) Doyle. She graduated from Staples High School and married Enos C. Thorn on Oct. 24, 1934. They continued to live in the Staples area until retirement. They moved to Bemidji where they lived on Campbell Lake for 18 years returning to Staples in 1988.
Alyce is survived by her children, Elayne (Bud) Welle of Motley, Darla (Bob) Peterson of Staples, and Larry Thorn of San Carlos, Mexico; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Leona Hollister and Marlys Hollister, both of Staples.
